Summer in Bavaria

After the wedding of my friends I stayed for another week in my homeland. One additional highlight was the visit of a "Hemp-Labyrinth," which was setup by my cousin. It's part of the Monastery of Andechs, a well known place in Southern Bavaria. It's not only famous because of the beautiful church but also because of affiliated brewery and beer garden. There is also lots of farmland around, and my cousin is responsible for it. The labyrinth is based on the "Labyrinth of Choisy," planed in France in the 17th century by Jacques IV Gabriel. (Of course, the historic precursor was not made from hemp!).

I went to Andechs with my mother (it was her birthday!) and a friend of her. Below, they are standing both on the platform in the middle of the labyrinth.

My cousin has not only a labyrinth, he also has sheep. Here they are:

Andechs is part of the "Pfaffenwinkel," a region north of the "Werdenfelser Land". It is famous for the small churches and chapels, which can be found everywhere. The one below is in the middle of farmland with no village close by.

Churches are only one landmark of Bavaria, other ones are small lakes - shaped by glaciers during the last ice-age - with vast mountains in the background, and white and blue sky above ...

... or incredibly green pasture with grazing white and brown cattle ...

... or majestic mountain summits ...

... or idyllic taverns:

Before I flew back to San Diego I made some pictures from my balcony in Garmisch. Below is the famous mountain range of Garmisch with the to the left and the Zugspitze to the right.
